Poppy Steer
Poppy, an Australian-born photographer and visual storyteller based in Vancouver, is driven by a deep curiosity about people and their environments. Their work uncovers narratives that might otherwise go untold, exploring themes of resilience, transformation, and shifting cultural landscapes. Focused on communities in transition and the intersections of identity and change, Poppy’s images balance intimacy with a sharp documentary perspective, aiming to amplify and illuminate overlooked stories.
After more than a decade working internationally with Apple, Poppy transitioned to photography, studying at Van Arts College and refining their craft through mentorship and immersive workshops, including an intensive led by Jacqueline Bates, Opinion Director at The New York Times. Their approach is grounded in empathy, creating images that are both memorable and deeply meaningful.
Poppy’s work has been featured in various editorial projects across Canada, and they continue to seek opportunities for collaborative storytelling—both locally in North America and globally.
When not chasing their next narrative, Poppy can be found exploring backroads with their dog, Lady, in search of the next town off the beaten path—blasting Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn along the way (dont judge them for that one)
